Star Wars characters raise cash for kids

THE FORCE was strong in Northolt last weekend when Star Wars characters paid a visit to raise money for a children's hospital.

Darth Vader with eight storm troopers was joined by bounty hunter Boba Fett and two Jedi, who put their differences aside at Jedi-Robe.com - The Star Wars Shop, in Church Road, Northolt.

About 300 children and adults met the characters and had their pictures taken with them on Saturday. The actors were not professionals, but all customers of the store, who gave up their time to raise money for Great Ormond Street and make people smile.

Donations are still being counted and shop owner Wayne Bower said he will match the total amount. He said: "We're the only Star Wars toy and costume shop in the world dedicated 100 per cent to Star Wars. I know there are a lot of adult fans but this was all about the children; not only a day for Northolt kids but for for Great Ormond Street, everyone working there is an angel and they need help.

"Many of the kids came in their own costumes, at one point we had seven Darth Vaders, and it gave dads a chance to put on their Star Wars t-shirts. From the moment we opened at 9am, until we closed at 6pm, the place was vibrant. It was so beautiful to see so many smiling faces.

"We're really appreciative of those who put in the effort and who donated."

Me llamó la atención esta nota, siempre es positivo usar al hobby para una buena causa.

ese era el origen del club de la legion 501 salir a los hospitales y fundaciones y llevar a los menores un poco de diversion y a sus personajes favoritos, lastima que ya se haya desvirtuado esto y ahora salen mas a eventos publicitarios.

incluso hasbro creo una figura en honor de la hija del jefe de la 501 (una unidad r2 de color rosa) cuyas ventas (figura exclusiva) se dieron integramente a una fundacion contra el cancer cerebral (es mas la unidad en cuestion se ve en la pelicula de clone wars al lado de r2-d2).

Gracias por el dato de la figura en honor a la hija del jefe de la 501, muy interesante.

Si, de verdad es una lástima que ya no hagan más eventos como este.
